VW ID.BUZZ Test Drive

Mom has been wanting to test drive an VW ID.BUZZ for a very long time. I wanted to as well. Such a fun drive! The Silver and Red are her Shorewood High School colors too!

After going to the Auto Show here in Milwaukee back in May, Mom and I were very curious about test driving the VW.BUZZ van since it came out back in 2025.  Now this groovy VW is styled after the old VW Micro Bus that was such an iconic figure from the 60s and 70s.  The Volkswagen Beetle was a part of that groovy moment as well.  This test drive was super fitting since my Mom was a legit flower power child!  I’ve been driving VW since 1997 and she has been a VW driver for over a decade, until she switched to an EV Ionic 5 from Hyundai.  I also had an EV from 2023 to 2025 and that was the VW ID.4S and it was such a fun car to drive.

My 2023 - 2025 VW ID.4S at an Electrify America fast charging station. I miss this car and hope to be reunited with a VW EV sometime in the near future.

Without going too much down the road of driving an EV over petrol-fueled cars, I don’t want to lose focus on how special the VW ID.BUZZ is with aesthetics, comfort, and drive.  Huge thanks to Scott Ruscheinsky and his VW team at VW Menomonee Falls Ewald for giving us this opportunity for both Mom and me to test drive this fun EV!

I couldn’t get over the comfort of the seats in this vehicle.  The front driver and passenger seats have heated/vented/full-massaging features.  The rear seats are heated.  The sunroof was the kind of glass that would go opaque to clear at the touch of a button.  No need to wait and have a shade pull over the entire glass panel.  The Harman/Kardon surround stereo was one of the best I’ve ever experienced in a Volkswagen.  I also love how all the seats can be completely flat so you can easily move furniture or even lay out an air mattress for camping!  EVs are the best vehicles for camping, since the HVAC is powered by the car’s battery pack and not by a gas-powered engine.  You can even power your campsite with this car as well.  Some EVs can offer this feature.  There is a big screen for infotainment and a heads-up display on both the steering column and a projector for the drivers windshield.  It’s so cool!  USB-C ports for everyone and ambient lighting that is customizable.

I really love the comfort of the bucket like seats and the dashboard feels so roomy. Lot’s of adaptive storage and modular re-positionable center counsel.

After I had a chance to drive, it was mom’s turn!

Mom found it very easy to maneuver and it really felt very similar to the EV she already has been driving.

Many people think that EVs don’t have power and have no idea that the direct drive motors on the wheels have more get-up-and-go than most V6 or V8 engines powered by petrol.  Now this car doesn’t go from 0-60 mph in 2 seconds like a Rivian or Tesla Plaid edition, but with the AWD configuration, it can get there in 4 seconds in sport mode easily.  There is nothing like having the confidence to know where you need to go or pass another vehicle on the road when the car has accelerative power.  Going back to a 4-cylinder VW, petrol-powered car, having that feature missing, is definitely something I truly miss having in an EV.  This car is super powered and has extreme pep in the drive!  Truly drives like a Volkswagen.  The build is solid and it has some fun personality.  Check out these photos below of the green and white ID.BUZZ on their lot.

One of the things I thought was super cute was the little Volkswagen Bus icons that you can discover throughout the car.  Such a fun detail.

I’m not sure if Mom and I are going to be future owners of this amazing flower power van, but I know we both dream about it.  It’s a premium car, so it does come with a larger price tag than most cars in this class.  But now is a good time to get into one with the incentives VW was running for the ID.BUZZ this past May for all 2025 models.  VW is skipping a year with this car to bring a newer version out in 2027.  I heard it will be even more suitable for camping and exploring.  A longer range battery pack would be nice too, but the current one isn’t too bad at 250 miles of range.  As an EV enthusiast, I usually recommend no less than 280 miles of range on an EV.

If you are in the market for a Volkswagen of any kind or if you’d be interested in checking out the VW ID.BUZZ and giving it a test drive, please look up VW Ewald’s website here!

Such a cute front hood on this iconic VW! Just makes everyone smile! With the money you’ll save on charging will make your smile even bigger!

Thanks so much for spending time with me today!  I had so much fun with Mom test driving this vehicle yesterday.  It sure would be a dream to have a car like this for camping and quilting!  Let me know in the comments below if you like VW?  If so, what's your favourite VW to drive?  Do you have an EV?  I’d love to hear from you!  If you go to VW Menomonee Falls Ewald, please make sure to let Scott know that Scott sent you!  He will know who it is.

Happy June and happy sunshine!

Hugs, Scott (The Quilting Camper)
